Congratulations on your new little one! This is an amazing and life-changing experience, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. During our photo session, my top priority is to make sure you and your newborn are completely comfortable and at ease. I take my cues from your baby to create one-of-a-kind beautiful and natural-looking images that are focused on your baby and your relationship with your baby.
I understand that newborns are unpredictable with their arrival – we do take pre-bookings. We treat it like we know the date of arrival and do a typical booking – however, I keep only a select amount of session times open for babies that are due around a specific time. We have a lot of clients contact last minute for sessions – but you will have priority placement because you have already “booked”. Contact now to pre book your session.
Why on location and not in studio? I owned and operated three commercial studios in years past, and if you absolutely would like to work in a studio versus your home, please let me know, and we will make arrangements – I have my original residential studio in Harford County, and will periodically rent studio space elsewhere for specific sessions. Over the 12 years that I have photographed newborns, I have found that newborns and their older siblings do much better when they are in their home environment. Siblings can go about their normal day after we are done shooting their portion, and even though you may think that your baby doesn’t know any better, I assure you, many babies know when they are not in their normal environment through the sounds and smells and even the feelings they tune into from their parents.
But wait, we can’t get any of the images that are on your site in my home, my rooms are too small and I have bad lighting! NO WORRIES! All I need is a space about 6 feet by 6 feet – whether that be a foyer, a family room, a kitchen, whatever! (although I have worked in a 3-foot hallway just fine), and I can create images that look like they were taken in a 1,900 square foot studio. You do nothing, I bring my equipment, lighting, backgrounds, and even wood floors (by request). Sometimes we even use your home itself to incorporate into the session. These images were taken in client homes…..
What about props? I know, you see 10 million newborn props out there from hats to baskets to Etsy-inspired knit clothing. If these are the types of images you want, simply supply the props, and I will photograph them beautifully, but I would like you to think about something – think about 15 years from now and how dated the images will look as trends/fads go out of style. I love to photograph your baby in a way that is classic and timeless.
Fine art photography that is about your baby and will never go out of style! You will never tire of looking at beautiful simple minimalist imagery that focuses on your baby and family – and consider how neutrals will always go with your decor.
Please note: If you have something that is important to you, please let me know, and we will definitely work to incorporate these things into your session to show off your family’s personality. All suggestions welcome! We’ve had pro ball players, equestrians, cyclists, lacrosse players, etc. request specific items that relate to them, and the images have turned out beautifully.
If you are looking for the original wood floors that I use in my images, please request them ahead of time, and I will bring them. I always bring a few items such as wraps, “fluff”, and background materials to the session.
